Where do you stand on the tipping debate? It’s impossible to be neutral—it might not be a strong opinion, but practically everyone (especially within the foodservice industry) has feelings one way or another on whether tips should continue to be a part of our culture or be replaced by higher standard wages or a service charge.

This video argues in favor of abandoning the tipping tradition and pursuing higher wages for wait staff instead—and although it’s from College Humor, there are makes a compelling and persuasive case in between the jokes. It may or may not ultimately change your mind on the matter, but it does raise some interesting points about how tipping came into existence in the United States and why it might be time to rethink the system.
