PepsiCo appoints XPO Logistics as lead transport partner across England and Wales
PepsiCo partners with XPO Logistics to run over one million kilometres of UK deliveries on electric trucks, cutting CO₂ emissions by 1,200+ tonnes a year

PepsiCo has teamed up with XPO Logistics to electrify more than one million kilometres of its freight network as part of its net zero ambitions.

The partnership means XPO will take charge as the primary transport partner for PepsiCo in England and Wales, covering key UK distribution sites in Leicester, Lutterworth, Coventry and Warrington.

Every day, millions in the UK enjoy products created by PepsiCo, from Pepsi MAX and Doritos to 7UP Zero Sugar and Quaker Oats. These products reach British consumers more than one billion times a day, but each item must first travel through PepsiCo's extensive supply chain.

XPO’s mission revolves around ushering freight into a less-polluting phase.

Central to this development is the adoption of electric vehicles across PepsiCo's UK network.

Mercedes-Benz eActros trucks will handle over one million kilometres of PepsiCo freight annually using battery power rather than diesel, in a move which is set to cut the logistics carbon footprint by more than 1,200 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

XPO is also introducing a unique CO₂ Reporting Dashboard that employs AI along with real-time planning and tracking capabilities to oversee carbon reductions through scenario modelling and live data.

This empowers PepsiCo to closely monitor emissions, refine operations instantly and maintain an efficient freight network, all while keeping up with environmental goals.

"Sustainability is in our DNA," comments Dan Myers, Managing Director for the UK and Ireland at XPO Logistics. "We are proud to partner with PepsiCo on this journey, combining investment in electric mobility with advanced technology and operational excellence.

"Our shared ambition goes beyond compliance — it’s about transformation. I believe this is just the beginning of what we can achieve together."

Andrew Smethurst, UK Logistics Director at PepsiCo

Shared ambition, shared trucks, shared goals

This collaboration fits into PepsiCo’s comprehensive pep+ strategy, a plan that spans farming, product development and goods delivery to customers.

Launched in 2021, pep+ focuses on sustainability and human resources, aiming to create business value within environmental limits.

Partnering with XPO aligns with these aims by lowering carbon emissions while ensuring reliable product delivery.

Andrew Smethurst, UK Logistics Director at PepsiCo, explains: “XPO Logistics has shown itself to be the ideal partner to help advance our PepsiCo Positive ambition. From their industry-leading sustainability credentials to a strong safety culture and transparent operational model, their team has consistently delivered innovation and value."

He adds: "This new partnership will play a vital role in further reducing our logistics emissions as we move iconic products like Walkers crisps and Doritos to our customers across the UK."

The electric trucks themselves are supplied by Daimler Truck UK, which manufactures the eActros 600.

“We are very proud to strengthen our partnership further with XPO Logistics with this order of our award-winning eActros 600s for the PepsiCo partnership," comments Heiko Selzam, Managing Director at Daimler Truck UK.

He adds: "This commitment underscores the recognition of both companies of the critical role these vehicles will play in achieving their sustainability goals. Following extensive collaboration, this order firmly establishes the eActros 600 as a leading solution in the electric truck market.”
