Mondelēz International introduces recyclable packaging for Cadbury's Easter 2026 range, featuring certified recycled plastic in partnership with Amcor

Mondelēz International, the manufacturer behind iconic brands such as Cadbury, Oreo and Toblerone, has reached a significant milestone in its environmental strategy.

The company's Cadbury chocolate portfolio will feature recyclable packaging for Easter 2026.

Working alongside its international partner Amcor, Mondelēz is developing solutions that could help advance its sustainability objectives.

The collaboration between the two companies aims to make Easter celebrations more environmentally conscious.

Cadbury Mini Eggs bags will now contain 65% certified recycled plastic packaging.

Additionally, both small and large Easter Cadbury tablets will be wrapped in 80% certified recycled plastic packaging.

The Cadbury Special Gesture Easter Egg range has undergone a design change, with its ribbon handle replaced by a recyclable cardboard alternative.

This modification could make the post-consumption recycling process simpler for customers.

The 2026 Easter packaging utilises Amcor's AmFiniti Recycled Content, a solution that converts post-consumer plastic waste into new packaging materials.

The partnership will source approximately 134 tonnes of post-consumer recycled plastic for the Cadbury Easter range production, equivalent to around 70 million bags of Mini Eggs.

Janice Narainsamy, Senior Product Development Engineer at Amcor, says: "It's fantastic to see our collaboration with Mondelēz International come to life with AmFiniti Recycled Content in iconic products like Cadbury Mini Eggs.

"Expanding recycled content into seasonal favourites such as the Easter range demonstrates what's possible when innovation and partnership align.

"This milestone shows how we can integrate more circular packaging solutions at scale, while maintaining the performance and quality consumers expect."

Progress towards 2030 targets

Mondelēz is working towards achieving at least a 25% virgin plastic reduction in its rigid plastic packaging by 2030 as part of its global Pack Light and Right strategy.

The company has set additional targets, including designing 98% of its packaging for recyclability and labelling it with clear consumer recycling information by 2030.

As of 2026, 96% of Mondelēz's total packaging is designed to be recycled. The updated Mini Eggs packaging includes clear recycling information, positioning the product as a more sustainable choice for consumers.

In 2025, Mondelēz launched the Cadbury Easter Favourites Pouch, which featured outer packaging made from paper. The company also removed 6.4 million plastic windows from its Easter egg range.

The revised Mini Eggs packaging this year represents a continuation of Mondelēz's sustainability ambitions for its seasonal chocolate offerings.

Through Amcor's sustainable packaging solutions, Mondelēz is progressing towards its environmental goals while potentially encouraging consumers to make more climate-conscious decisions in their purchasing and consumption patterns.

Joanna Dias, United Kingdom and Ireland (UK&I) Sustainability Lead at Mondelēz International, says in a press release: "Our Cadbury Mini Eggs range is an iconic Easter treat, loved by people across the UK & Ireland, and this is an exciting moment to increase our use of recycled plastic packaging across the Easter Range.

"Continuing our partnership with Amcor to grow our impact, our Cadbury Mini Eggs this Easter are another fantastic milestone for Mondelēz UK&I as we work towards the delivery of Mondelēz's global sustainability goals, namely, reducing our use of virgin plastic."

The Cadbury Mini Eggs bags will feature a QR code on the rear of the packaging. Customers can scan this code to access additional information about the product's recycled material content and Mondelēz's sustainable packaging approach.

Easter 2026 represents an important opportunity for Mondelēz to progress its sustainability strategy through increased use of recycled plastic and the potential to influence more sustainable consumer behaviour.
