The Growth Strategy Behind Two Big McDonald's Hires

McDonald's has made two new C-suite appointments, indicating a commitment to encouraging growth and enhancing its market position.
The appointments see McDonald's bringing in external experience to navigate its ongoing transformation and growth journey.
McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski announced via LinkedIn that Emily Reasor is set to join the business in October as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO).
Discussing the hire, Chris said: âThis hire signals our intent to make strategy a dynamic capability - one that guides execution, unlocks growth and strengthens our competitive edge.â
In addition to this role, McDonald's has also created a new position, Chief Data Analytics and AI Officer, which will be filled by Das Dasgupta.
New appointments to drive strategic growth
Emily Reasor comes to McDonald's from a background of nearly 18 years as a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company.
Her LinkedIn profile indicates a focus on B2C sectors, specifically breakout growth and analytics issues.
This experience could be pivotal as McDonald's seeks to identify new avenues for expansion and operational efficiency.
In his announcement of the appointment, Chris said: âAs we unlock the next chapter of our growth, Emily will work across our global business to identify new opportunities, embed strategic discipline into how we operate and ensure our priorities remain anchored in what matters most to our customers, communities and the McDonaldâs system.â
He concluded with a welcome message, âWelcome to the McFamily, Emily - I look forward to all the exciting work to come.â
Harnessing data analytics and AI for business impact
As McDonald's first Chief Data Analytics and AI Officer, Das Dasgupta brings over 25 years of experience from various Fortune 500 companies.
His career includes Director and Head of North America of Customer Experience at Amazon and Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Starbucks.
This background in data-centric roles at major consumer brands could be instrumental for McDonald's.
In the role Das will âlead the development and execution of our enterprise-wide strategyâ and he will work closely with executives and global technology partners to âunlock new possibilities to better run and grow our business through data, analytics and AIâ, says Skye Anderson, McDonaldâs President of Global Business Services.
Skye added: âIâm confident heâll bring forward thinking and a collaborative spirit that this role requires - and in only a short few weeks, his passion, curiosity and commitment to creating real business impact here at McDonaldâs are already being felt.â
In his own LinkedIn post, Das explained: âMy commitment is simple: listen first, learn from our crew and franchisees, and work side-by-side to turn data into everyday decisions that make experiences faster, easier and more personal - all with strong governance, privacy and ethics.â
A broader focus on leadership and global impact
These appointments follow other changes within the McDonald's leadership structure.
In September, McDonald's appointed two new executives to its Global Impact Team, a division established in late 2020 to guide strategy across climate resources, people and community impact.
The teamâs responsibilities include setting climate goals ensuring responsible sourcing with suppliers and developing diversity, equity and inclusion strategies.
Kathy Baird was announced as Chief Impact Officer for McDonaldâs USA and Senior Vice President, while Anne Hammer was named Vice President and Global Chief Communications Officer.
Jon Banner, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Impact Officer at McDonald's, said at the time: âIn todayâs fast-changing world, our ability to protect the Arches is more vital than ever. Thatâs why Iâm thrilled to welcome two new leaders to Global Impact, who will help raise the bar for how we show up during moments that matter.â
