AleSmith Releases 12oz Bottles of Tony Gwynn Collab Pale Ale 394
In much the same way that San Diego Comic-Con is the perfect time for comics and media outlets to announce and launch new products, San Diego Beer Week is the perfect time for breweries to launch extra-special new beer varieties and packaging options. AleSmith Brewing Company first introduced the San Diego Pale Ale .394, its collaboration with San Diego Padres veteran Tony Gwynn, in May 2014. For the last day of San Diego Beer Week, the award-winning brewery is taking the unique brew to a larger consumer audience by launching it on the retail market in six packs of 12-oz bottles.
Named for the highest single-season batting average record that Tony Gwynn set, the collaborative effort aims to define “San Diego pale ale” as an offering with a bitter hoppy flavor between a pale ale and an IPA. It wouldn’t be San Diego Beer Week without a large event to commemorate a new product, and the launch of the AleSmith San Diego Pale Ale .294 is no exception. According to AleSmith, the brewery will be hosting Tony Gwynn Jr. and the rest of the Gwynn family during a special sneak peek party on November 16 at the AleSmith tasting room. Gwynn Jr. will be signing autographs, while 119 guests will have the opportunity to pick up the first six-packs of the beer.
“Both the AleSmith team and Gwynn family are extremely excited to finally ‘pre-launch’ this long awaited packaging option in their hometown of San Diego,” says a spokesperson for AlesSmith Brewing Company in a release issued by the brewery. “Only 119 six packs will initially be available and limited to one six-pack per customer but don’t worry, AleSmith promises a hoppy tide of fresh, packaged .394 brew is coming soon.”
