Cold chain specialist Lineage launches global competition for innovative solutions to tackle post-harvest waste for the food industry

One of the world’s top cold chain specialists has launched a competition  to encourage innovative technologies and data solutions to address global post-harvest food waste.

Temperature-controlled warehouse company, Lineage, is offering funding and incubator programmes for winning solutions as part of its Food Chain Innovation Challenge.

The competition aims to address the critical issue of postharvest food waste, which contributes to global food insecurity.

The challenge comes at a time when nearly a billion people are expected to face severe food insecurity by 2028, according to the report.

Lineage, which operates 480 facilities across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, is inviting students and startups to present innovative technologies and data solutions to combat this problem.

The London event will feature a judging panel including experts from FareShare, food redistribution charity and WRAP, a sustainability organisation and the Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leaders.

The report mentions that industry partners ReLondon, a partnership aiming to make London a circular economy leader and FoodCycle, charity that combats food waste, will provide coaching to help participants refine their pitches.
