Twizzlers and gummy worms are decidedly delicious, and a ubiquitous part of life, but we don’t often think about how they’re actually made. So we’re easing back into the week by taking in a tour of the manufacturing process from start to finish.

These candies are deceptively simple in their designs—that simplicity belies precision and creative solutions to create and maintain their shapes. From extruders and water-lubricated precision blades to disappearing cornstarch molds, a lot goes into the process of automating the production of millions of chewy candies per day. But once those processes are perfected and set in motion, it’s fascinating to watch them in action.
