Lightning Round: Chip flavors and more
Frito-Lay has announced this year’s lineup of finalists for its annual “Do Us a Flavor” contest. Would you be into southern-style biscuits and gravy in the form of a crispy potato chip? How about Wavy Lays that mimic the richness of truffle fries? There are also two sandwich-inspired finalists in the mix: kettle cooked-style Greek Gyro and original style New York Reuben. From here, it’s up to fans to try out the finalists and cast their votes starting July 27—while all four finalists will take home a hefty $50,000 at minimum, the grand prize winner will take home a cool $1 million (not to mention some high quality bragging rights). ~ WHNT
As time goes on, curiosity grows over whether an acquisition between AB InBev and SABMiller will actually happen in the near future. Could it be that the corporate structures of each business are holding them back from a successful merger? With mobile apps gaining in popularity and availability among many fast food and fast casual chains from Chipotle and Starbucks to Taco Bell and Burger King, many are wondering—when is McDonald’s going to get on board with a mobile app of its own? According to reports, one is in the works but it may be another year before the tech is readily available. ~ The Columbian
We know that it has been a rough year for Yum! Brands’ China division, and no one knows that better than Yum! Brands itself. Company CEO Greg Creed spoke to investors this week, asking them for patience in rebuilding sales and growth in China before resorting to spinning off the division. ~ USA Today
