Every day, Nestlé manufactures 4.5m KitKats in 14 countries
At the 2024 International Symposium, Nestlé shared its vision for global nutrition, balancing health with taste and managing the food landscape

The conversation around food and health is a delicate one, built on trillions of dollars and eight billion tastes.

At the 2024 Nestlé International Nutrition Symposium, over 50 distinguished scientists from around the world gathered together to share their scientific views on balanced diets and the link between diets and health. The event took place at Nestlé Research in Lausanne, Switzerland, with a theme: ‘Rethinking the impact of nutrition on health: From nutrients to meals to balanced diets’. This was the 20th anniversary of the first Nestlé International Nutrition Symposium.

Nestlé's vision for balanced diets and global well-being

Nestlé is a leader in nutrition, from its start in 1866, the company has grown from a single-product enterprise, to over 2,000 brands in 186 countries.

"Nestlé has unparalleled strengths, such as iconic brands and products, an unmatched global presence, leading innovation and execution capabilities, and above all, exceptional people and teams. We can strategically position Nestlé to lead and win everywhere we operate," said CEO Laurent Freixe

The company has committed to making 85% of its sales from healthier products by 2030, with a focus on medical nutrition, infant nutrition and active lifestyle nutrition.

Yet well being requires balance and Nestlé hits the mark, from its healthcare range to its snacks.

In our Top 10: Biscuit Manufacturers, Nestlé’s KitKat came in first place. The Guinness World Records has certified KitKat as the world's most global brand and every day 4.5m KitKats are manufactured in 14 countries and sold in over 70 territories.

However, the company is also dedicated to providing an affordable selection of healthy food, not just delicious snacks.

Nestlé Chairman, Mr. Paul Bulcke, opened the event by discussing the importance of supporting people to eat balanced diets, in a sustainable way. He said that the need to meet the specific nutritional and health needs of people in all life stages was vital and that science and technology play a part in this.

Professor Eileen Kennedy gave a keynote lecture where she discussed that balanced diets must ensure adequate nutrient intake to lower the chance of malnutrition and non-communicable diseases across all life stages.
