Walmart's Jet.com pushes for same-day grocery delivery in NYC with new fulfilment centre
Walmart’s Jet.com is launching a new fulfilment centre in the Bronx, New York City, making the largest city in the United States one of its first markets for same-day delivery.
The retailer acquired e-commerce startup, Jet.com, around two years ago for approximately $2bn in cash.
Jet.com plans to open the new online fulfilment centre this Autumn to help it offer same- and next-day grocery deliveries in New York City.
Initially, the Bronx facility will only store and deliver goods from Jet.com.

Walmart has heavily invested in its online grocery business, with the company noting that it is on track to increase online grocery sales by 40% this fiscal year.
In March, the retailer announced that it plans to expand its online grocery delivery service to around 800 stores by the end of the year.
It has also been re-outfitting its stores to support mobile and online delivery.
“This is another building block that is part of Jet’s strategy focused on urban centres,” Simon Belsham, president of Jet.com, told the Wall Street Journal.
Jet.com will use Walmart’s subsidiary Parcel to deliver groceries from the new warehouse.
Parcel is a same-day and last-mile delivery service that Walmart purchased last year for an undisclosed amount.
