PepsiCo Launches AI-Powered Recycling Solution 'Oscar Sort'

PepsiCo has announced a partnership with Intuitive AI, a tech developer which builds AI-powered recycling bins for civic and commercial spaces, in a programme known as 'Oscar Sort'. This AI mechanism communicates with users by recognising the kind of litter that they want to dispose of and guiding them in where to put it.
Oscar Sort can also identify organic leftovers in containers. It will urge users to dispose of liquids properly before recycling and offers accurate toss-out tips for almost any item.
Intuitive AI, Oscar's creator, says that the invention will see:
- Up to a 300% jump in recycling rates
- A 40% drop in operational costs for the waste sector
- A sevenfold increase in the amount that individuals recycle.
The system also tailors recycling protocols to each one of its locations, providing data on disposed waste, as recycling policies can change from each geographic location.
PepsiCo’s sustainable solutions - from Scope 3 to recycling
PepsiCo is not just known for its titular product, the company is a global leader in the food, snack and beverage industry. The company aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2040 and has already achieved 100% renewable electricity in its U.S. operations. PepsiCo focuses on positive agriculture, value chain and choices, aiming to spread regenerative farming practices across seven million acres by 2030.
PepsiCo is also a member of the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, a coalition which encourages a global agreement to the end of plastic pollution.
