The move comes six months after Danone completed the acquisition of organic producer Whitewave, to form the newly combined business unit DanoneWave.
DanoneWave, which markets itself as a “public benefit corporation,” primarily manufactures better-for-you dairy products and plant-based alternatives using sustainable agriculture methods.
The facility, based in Mount Crawford, Virginia, was previously used to make WhiteWave-owned brands such as Silk plant-based food and beverages, Horizon Organic, International Delight and Land O’Lakes products.
“With the support of our employees, business partners and the community at large, including the Commonwealth [of Virginia], we are able to provide better-for-you food and beverage choices,” said Dan Poland, chief supply chain officer for DanoneWave.
